Meet the Seven Most Soulful Men of Seattle, THE DIP

The Dip, a bluesy seven-man band hailing from Seattle, Washington, is dominating my spring playlists these days. I recently stumbled across their song, ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’, and although it was released two years ago, it hasn’t left my head for weeks now. The dynamic melody backed by heavy horns creates a soulful tune that you can't help but tap your foot to. Perfect for a windows-down type o' day.

The group, a bunch of jazz students at the University of Washington, came together in 2013 to play house parties and local shows. Fueled by their inspiration and adoration of James Brown, The Dip released their first EP in 2013. Quickly realizing they wanted more than dingy college basement shows, the group streamlined their vision for the band, condensed to seven members, and released their first self-titled album in 2015.

Enhanced by trumpets, percussion, and a robust chorus, frontman Tom Eddy's distinct vocals give us a sound reminiscent of times when "The Twist" was the most popular jig and Marvin Gaye ruled the charts. Today, The Dip easily joins the likes of St. Paul and the Broken Bones and The California Honeydrops with their deep roots vibe that even your parents will enjoy.

Their recent single, an emboldening breakup tune released in 2017, is another one of my favorites. Get ready to swing those hips along to "Sure Don't Miss You".

The band is touring this spring and summer so if you like what you hear, catch The Dip out on the road! I have a feeling we’ll be hearing lots more great things from these guys. Get to groovin'!
